Main Purpose of the Job
To be responsible for commissioning all apparatus and systems within substation, overhead line and cable projects. The work will require managing electrical technicians from our subcontractor to achieve the completion of the commissioning. In addition, it will be needed to prepare commissioning procedures of the test to be performed, prepare the final commissioning dossier, contact the equipment manufacturers, prepare commissioning contract specifications, and assist to commissioning meetings with the project manager and the property.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for ensuring projects (air and insulated substations, overhead lines and underground lines, transformer replacements etc..) are commissioned according to specifications.
- As principle contractor ensure compliance with all Health, Safety & Environmental Regulations
- Conduct progress, co-ordination and interface meetings with the team, client and contractors.
- Approval of commissioning procedures along with client.
- Prepare and review tender documents including commissioning tests to be performed, contractor's scope of works, costs, and programme according to our standards and specifications.
- Provide regular reports on commissioning status. Minimise variations of the program and manage the variation process. Review contractor's milestones, confirm accuracy and authorise payments.
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and in a team consisting of Project Management, Design, Commercial, Civil, Electrical, Safety, Quality and Environmental staff whilst supervising contractors and manufacturers.
Dimensions
- Geography - UK
- Site Commissioning management of a number of complex projects with values varying from 1 million to 100 millions.
- Manage all contractor staff (related to your discipline) on site. Numbers could vary from 4 to 12 staff depending on work activities. It is possible even to manage two nearly sites occasionally.
- Provide support, coaching and technical advice.
Sklls, Knowledge and Experienc
- Significant experience in commissioning substations, transmission lines, or power plants.
- Technical degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience managing teams
- Office work experience highly appreciated. PC knowledge or Microsoft applications.
- Health, safety and environmental legislation applicable to construction projects particularly CDM
- Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction and commissioning of plant apparatus, control & protection equipment on transmission network
Qualifications and Training
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience commissioning substations, transmission lines projects.
- Knowledge on UK commissioning electrical normative.
- Experience regarding both electrical and protection tests.
- Skills in use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Document management and Programme management packages.
- Knowledge of Transmission Operator, REC or DNO health & safety requirements and technical compliance
Other Essential Criteria
- 5 Years experience in commissioning major substation and transmission lines projects (both fields electrical and protection works)
- Degree in relevant Engineering Discipline or equivalent experience.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- In possession of safety certificates delivered by the client, enough to perform and manage commissioning activities in energized areas. Or equivalent diplomas to obtain client's permits in a little time.
