In this part-time post, you will help to manage prison library services in HMP Littlehey, a category C prison in Cambridgeshire.
The library caters for the social, recreational and educational needs of prisoners and makes a real difference to the lives of prisoners at HMP Littlehey. Candidates should have an interest in stock selection and promotion and the enthusiasm to develop the services currently offered and explore new projects. The library staff will also recruit, train and develop some prison orderlies from within the prison population and you will be a key part of this development programme.
Partnership working, innovative ideas and excellent communication skills will be vital in this challenging but rewarding post, as will an understanding of the unique environment of a prison.
You will be supported by a team of 2 library assistants in the post at HMPLittlehey and work in partnership with another part-time prison library and resources manager. You will also work closely with the prison library and resources manager at the adjacent Young Offenders’ Institute and may, on occasion, be asked to work there as well.
