Job Title: Discipline/Design Engineer

Job purpose:
To deliver engineering support through the rigid pipeline discipline team to the UKBU Project Management Teams.

Reporting lines and interactions:
Hierarchically reports to: UKBU Discipline Managers, UKBU Engineering Manager

Operationally reports to: Discipline Lead – Rigid Pipelines Team

Directly supervises: As directed by Discipline Lead

Typical background and experience required:
Must have:
Engineering Degree (B.Sc. / B. Eng with honours) in Mechanical, Civil or General Engineering.
The candidate must have a very strong analytical background
Good track record of experience of analytical subsea engineering.
A strong analytical or design background.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
In depth knowledge of rigid pipeline design and installation analysis.
Fluent in FEA techniques including SIMULA, ORCAFLEX, FS2000, SAGE-PROFILE
A good team player. Self motivated with a drive for results and improvement.
The ability to work on own initiative and to tight deadlines.
Ability to supervise / delegate work packages.
Supportive of change initiative.
Good interpersonal skills.
Committed to working safely and the safety of colleagues.
Compliant with Site Safety Rules.
Compliant with applicable BMS processes and procedures.
Proactively support QHSES improvements.

Main accountabilities:
Provide high quality rigid pipeline technical support to project teams at tendering and project phases including but not limited to;
Pipeline, umbilical and spool installation analyses;
design reviews;
design analysis and calculations;
budget and study activities;
Technical presentations.
Supervise the quality of the rigid pipeline engineering activities within the following areas
All design activities pertinent to discipline;
Installation analysis and methods;
Ensure that the relevant design rules and procedures are complied with.
Assist the discipline lead in managing and supervising the engineers within the rigid pipeline team.
Support and help the development of the other engineers within discipline team.
Review internal rigid pipeline design calculations
Review design house documentation, performance and technical competence.
Consolidate UKBU experience in rigid pipeline and disseminate experience, know how and lessons learnt. Become recognised as rigid pipeline design and installation expert within the company.
Develop, maintain and consolidate, as required, spreadsheet, tools and software related to discipline.
Develop and run internal training courses for project engineers and others pertinent to discipline.
Adhere to departmental QA, administration procedures and processes.
