Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Fertility
The post offered is for a full time Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with an interest in Fertility. This post is based in Swansea but some clinics may be held in other parts of the Health Board.
It is offered on the amended terms of the Consultant Contract on an optional whole time, 37.5 hours, working week - 10 session basis, although any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full time would be eligible to be considered for the post, and is subject to the terms and conditions of service governing the appointment of hospital medical and dental staff in Wales.
The fertility department is staffed by 4 full time Consultants, two based in Bridgend and two in Swansea (one of which is the currently advertised post). The department offers specialised fertility clinics and advanced laparoscopic reproductive surgery. The two consultants in Swansea are supported by two registrars, a trust doctor, two fertility nurses and two semenologists. The department offers advanced training in fertility management & advanced training in laparoscopic surgery.
The Swansea Reproduction Unit (SWARU) is part of the secondary care fertility services and licensed by the HFEA to carry out IUI and GIFT. SWARU success rate is among the best in the UK.
ABMU Health Board has also recently been awarded the responsibility to run the assisted reproduction services for all of South Wales. This is an exciting time for us and we will be launching the new services soon. It is anticipated that the fertility Consultants will be able to participate in the provision of this new service.

There are modern seminar rooms, libraries and video libraries fully equipped with the latest technology on the Princess of Wales Hospital, Neath Port Talbot Hospital, as well as the Singleton and Morriston Hospital sites.
