Responsible To
Practice Nurse Prison Healthcare
Key Responsibilities
To work as part of a team of Primary Care Nurses within HMP Brixton Integrated Healthcare Services. Ensure that own clinical practice is consistent with autonomous practice within the role which covers areas of acute injury / illness and chronic disease management / health promotion / traditional patient care. To plan, and deliver high-quality nursing care to the prisoner population who have physical and mental health needs. To promote health and well being within the prisoner population, with an emphasis on the prevention of ill health and education of those with chronic diseases. Be an effective member of the Healthcare Service across the prison making a professional contribution to the development of an effective and pro-active Healthcare Service.
Skills & Experience
1st level Registered Nurse with current registration with the UK Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC).
Evidence of Continuous Professional Development to maintain up-to-date knowledge and on-going competence in all aspects of care delivery
- Proven post registration experience including evidence of working in any of these following clinical areas;
Accident & Emergency
Primary Care environments
Minor Injuries / Illness Units
Acute specialities at a senior level
Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
Evidence of team working
Experience in management of long term conditions e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes & heart failure
