SALARY: £7.39 /hr for 12 weeks / £8.38 /hr after 12 weeks
LOCATION: Newry There will be a requirement to travel to other Sites.

Job Purpose
The post-holder will provide technical, workshop and laboratory assistance to lecturers in support of the education and training of students and trainees within all curricular areas. The post-holder will also be expected to provide technical assistance to administrative and managerial staff using the College network and Management Information Systems. The postholder will ensure that associated workshops, offices, IT Laboratories, IT Mobile Unit and Outreach Centres are fully functional and are organised and maintained in a safe working condition.
Key Responsibilities and accountabilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for any or all of the following duties:
Provide technical support hardware/software to all departments, staff and students throughout all the sites and out centres.
Work as part of a team of IT support staff in the operation of the College's IT Systems.
Connect computer systems to the College's Network, in line with the Local Area Network security features.
Maintenance and administrative duties including;
Setting up computer systems with regard to hardware and software.
Storage of master copies of software; backing up master copies where appropriate; keeping master copies of all relevant literature regarding software.
Maintenance of hardware and cables.
Identifying possible causes of breakdown of systems and/or hardware.
Cleaning of computer peripherals.
Monitoring/updating records and systems management tools with regards to assets movements and reporting all occurrences to the Estates office.
Ensuring that all IT suites are fully functional, tidy and are organised and maintained in a safe working condition.
Issuing of consumables ensuring that stock control procedures are followed.
Requisitioning, checking deliveries and invoicing of consumables, equipment, tools and materials and stock control.
Provide technical support at times of examinations and enrolments.
Organise and maintain an inventory of equipment.
Assist the Network Administrator with day to day operational duties.
Installation of software/specialised software for disability needs, in conjunction with the room suitability document.
Respond to calls via the College's Helpdesk, regarding IT equipment, demonstrations, upgrading of hardware, mobile laptops, switches, printers, photocopiers, telephones, audio visual equipment etc.
Monitor maintenance / warranty contracts.
Deal with outside organisations responsible for the maintenance of College computer systems and liaising with their engineers.
Assist lecturing staff in the design, development and evaluation of learning and teaching aids and materials.
Assist in the implementation of the College's Information Communication Technology strategy as it applies to all curricular areas by assisting lecturing staff in the installation of computer software and hardware.
Supervise IT open access areas when required.
Assist with the auditing of Health and Safety as it applies to the use of workshops and laboratories and associated equipment and apparatus.
The post may require the post holder to drive the College's Mini-Bus / ICT mobile unit.
Assist in the induction / training of new ICT staff and work-placement students.
Attend team meetings when necessary.
Participate in staff development and training events when required in accordance with the College's Staff Development Policy and Procedures.
General
Participate in the enrolment cover rota.
Be required to undertake work outside normal working hours on occasions.
Provide reports, written and oral, as required.
Ensure that all documentation and authorisation procedures are adhered to.

The location of the post will reflect the needs of the College and may be changed subject to the requirements of the College. Duties may change as the College develops, therefore the person appointed will be expected to be flexible in relation to duties performed as required.
