Quality Assurance Registrant Inspectors General Dental Council (GDC)
London

General Dental Council (GDC)

Help the GDC to quality assure education and training programmes

As part of its duty to protect patients and maintain the standard of dental education, the GDC carries out quality assurance inspections of education and training programmes that lead to registration as a dentist or dental care professional (DCP). We are recruiting registrant inspectors who can bring their knowledge, skills and experience to our inspections.

Inspectors work in teams of between two and six to inspect programmes and examinations for dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists, orthodontic therapists and clinical dental technicians. Inspection teams comprise dentists, DCPs, lay people and a member of the QA team. A typical inspection will usually last between one and three days. Inspectors study documentary submissions from education and training providers prior to an inspection, make recommendations on the basis of their findings from the inspection and assist in the drafting of inspection reports. Inspectors will also be asked to assess submissions from course providers for new programmes.

Registrant inspectors will need to have experience of dental education and training, which may have been gained in an academic setting or in another area, such as foundation training. Also required is a commitment to assuring the quality of academic programmes leading to registration.

The role profile and person specification for this position provides further details of the knowledge, skills and experience sought.

Inspectors should be able to commit at least 6 days per year in the first instance and will be required to attend an initial induction session as well as periodic training sessions.

Inspectors will be paid a fee, currently £353 per day (£176.50 per half-day), plus expenses.
