OPERATIONAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – (PERMANENT)
ROCHDALE / ASDA / GREATER MANCHESTER

A vacancy has arisen for an Operational Development Manager to support Wincanton’s new Asda Depot. The position will be based in Rochdale.

The Role:
Ÿ Reporting to the site General Manager;
Ÿ Commencing June 2012;
Ÿ Responsible for ensuring that the effective systems, processes and controls are in place with regard to supply chain systems, stock control and administration;
Ÿ Giving direction and monitor performance that assists the General Manager in ensuring the depot runs efficiently and effectively;
Ÿ Ensuring effective communication throughout the operation, communicating planned requirements providing information on performance, company news and procedures;
Ÿ Management of contractors liaising with providers and suppliers including MHE suppliers, security and catering;
Ÿ Working with suppliers to ensure conformance levels;
Ÿ Identify, facilitate and implement process improvement in a controlled and structured way using modern Lean methods, for change within the site;
Ÿ Run improvement projects using a structured approach with clear targets, project plans and KPIs;
Ÿ Identify and implement new ways of working (lean tools),equipment and processes in order to improve performance and attack the various waste streams;
Ÿ Set up best practice for ways of working, systems and processes such as SOPs, change control, coordinate the site’s 5S programme (including auditing);
Ÿ Develop and produce relevant coaching and training packages and deliver this coaching and training to personnel;
Ÿ Convey complex information to a variety of audiences and support the uptake of new processes across the business;
Ÿ Monitor and set up key performance indicators and use these to generate / measure improvements;
Ÿ The role will require extensive analysis of complex factual information with the aim of innovation and development of operational processes;
Ÿ Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the client, with a proactive approach to problem solving and ability to generate and implement creative initiatives at pace;

• To undertake such additional duties as may be reasonably required for the effective role within the site;

The Person:

• Degree level (or equivalent) Certification to Six Sigma (Green belt or above) desirable;
• MS proficient (ie Excel, PPT, Word, Minitab);
• Project Management tools & techniques;
• Proven practical application and development of Quality / Lean tools in retail environment;
• Able to demonstrate knowledge of managing change in a challenging environment;
• You must be able to demonstrate senior management supply chain experience in a high volume operation or in an extensive multi-site contract preferably with a leading retailer / distributor;
• You will be process orientated, with a track record of implementing process improvements and controls within a supply chain environment;
• You will have experience of working closely with clients and developing effective working relationships;
• You will have experience of managing suppliers effectively;
• You will have experience of developing resourcing strategies in a cost effective way to meet the needs of the clients business;
• You should have excellent inter personnel skills, be able to communicate at all levels professionally and discreetly;
• You must have the energy, determination and commitment to operate in an environment where regular customer contact and scrutiny is the norm and effective customer communication essential;
• Start up experience is desirable but not essential, you will however be required to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the start up process;
• Strong IT skills required;
• Must be confident communicator;
• Experience of working in a fast paced distribution environment would be advantageous;
