Main Purpose of the Job
To develop, agree and implement specific procurement strategies to obtain value for money and sustainable cost reductions from expenditure on goods, services and works.
To ensure that the Company’s requirements are sourced from the right suppliers utilising the right contractual and commercial arrangements which recognise and mitigate risk.
What does the Job Involve?
To develop and implement specific procurement strategies for business requirements in order to deliver the lowest sustainable cost that represents maximum value for money.
To manage all aspects of the supplier relationship to mitigate risk.
To negotiate and manage agreed areas of procurement activities.
To deal with procurement issues and ensure that internal customer needs are understood and met.
Ensure compliance with the EU Procurement Directives in order to avoid business exposure to litigation.
Work, in conjunction with the Category Manager, the procurement function’s operating costs to ensure that they are contained within the agreed revenue budget.
To support and maintain the businesses’ health, safety and environmental policies in relation to procurement
Ensure that the business’s health, safety and environmental policies are communicated to the supply base.
To deputise for the Category Manager as and when appropriate.
To undertake any other duties as requested by the Category Manager.
Manage the relationship with key suppliers to maximise value and exploit any opportunities with that supplier
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
In-depth experience of delivering commercial contracts.
Good working knowledge of EU procurement directives.
Good, communicating, influencing and negotiating skills.
Well-developed planning and organisation skills.
Ability to make high-level decisions within tight timescales.
Team worker and team builder with sound people management skills.
Provide guidance and mentoring support to Sourcing Consultants and other more junior staff.
Highly numerate.
Computer literate with excellent systems knowledge.
Expertise at managing strategic or large-scale contracts.
Essential experience of managing in a commercial environment the service delivery from third parties and the creation of appropriate governance around this.
Minimum Criterea
Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) preferred.
Appropriate knowledge of relevant markets and products / services.
Educated to degree level or equivalent preferred.

External -supplier representatives include Sales Directors and Account Managers. Technical and advisory bodies dependent on suppliers, and representatives from technical or legislative perspective such as EU Procurement Directives, Health and Safety, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), Chartered Institute of Engineers or equivalent professional procurement bodies.
