You will work on a 3 year research project entitled examining the effect of surfactant on air-sea gas exchange in contrasting biogeochemical regimes where you will undertake seagoing fieldwork in the Atlantic Ocean, coastal North Sea and English Channel. Specifically you will i collect sea water samples along gradients in salinity and primary productivity and analyse these for a range of parameters including surfactant activity dissolved organic matter absorbance and fluorescence chlorophyll-a and dissolved gases ii carry out laboratory gas exchange experiments using seawaters collected from these locations, either on board ship or in Newcastle. You will be educated to PhD level in an appropriate discipline e.g oceanography or a related marine science. A detailed understanding of air-sea gas exchange is essential.
