The South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) is responsible for managing, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in South Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government.
As part of this role, the South Wales Trunk Road Agency manages the Traffic Officer service and Traffic Management Centre Control Room operations in South Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government.
Traffic Officers present the public face of the Welsh Government on the Highway. Patrolling part of the M4 Motorway and A470 in South Wales, you will respond to incidents, making the area safe before briefing the emergency services, with the power to stop and divert traffic, close lanes, remove vehicles and place signs, you will play an essential role in the safety of our roads.
You will promote and build good working relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure that the common goals of reducing incident related congestion is achieved.
You will also assist in identifying where the road infrastructure, including surface and signage, might be enhanced or repaired, where necessary, to improve the safety of road users, and forward such intelligence promptly and accurately to the relevant person(s).
You will have a minimum qualification of 5 GCSE's or equivalent and experience of working in a high risk environment such as a high speed road network.

Interviews and assessment will take place on Tuesday 10th July 2012.
All successful candidates will be expected to undertake full training which will be provided and must complete prior to taking up the post. Training will commence on Monday 3rd September 2012.
You will be flexible in working shift patterns (including weekends) and available to work reasonable overtime when required.
It is an essential requirement of the post that you reside within one hour's travelling time of the operational location.
