Sunbury Role synopsis BP is currently seeking candidates for Exploration Geoscientists to work within the Exploration Division based in the UK. Opportunities also exist at our international locations as we explore some of the world’s most interesting and challenging hydrocarbon basins.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on the wide range of exploration activities that BP is currently engaged in. This could involve new ventures opportunities evaluating the hydrocarbon potential of hitherto unexplored basins – or could be developing a prospect inventory in area in order to high-grade and drill wildcat exploration wells.

Facilitating participation in training programs, peer assists, and conferences, as well as a proactive approach to personal career development, are all key components of these job opportunities Key accountabilities The successful candidates will work within an integrated and focussed exploration team.
The following roles and responsibilities are envisaged:
- Provide input into regional evaluation, basin analysis and prospect identification for new venture access, prospect generation and appraisal
- Perform geological interpretation in a variety of structural and stratigraphic regimes incorporating a variety of geophysical and geological data
- Provide detailed depositional models within a regional sequence stratigraphic framework.
- Actively participate in the well planning process to optimise well locations using a variety of geological and geophysical data
- Liaise with co-venturers and other parts of the BP organisation
- Input into the generation of appraisal plans for future developments Essential Education Must have a University degree in Geoscience or relevant subject or equivalent Essential experience and job requirements To be considered for the role of geoscientist, applicants must have:
- Ability to work with a variety of geological data including well logs, core, 2D and 3D seismic data
- Experience in exploration geoscience
- Skilful application of standard geological software suites Other essential skills and knowledge Strong communications skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of technical specialists and partners are necessary, as is the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team (geophysicists, geologists and other specialist disciplines) to create integrated products and the ability to communicate results and interpretations to management Desirable criteria & qualifications In addition to the essential qualifications, the successful candidate will likely be able to demonstrate skills in all or some of the following areas:
- Regional Geological Evaulation
- Familiarity with a variety of structural and stratigraphic regimes
- Understanding of Play Concept definition
- Petroleum Systems and Basin Modelling
- Experience of Prospect Description and risking
- Understanding of seismic techniques and interpretation including non-seismic geophysics
- Non-conventional hydrocarbons
