Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Constructive Design Manager to join our client's team to act as the Constructive Technical Authority within SSMG Technical Departments. The successful candidate will be expected to identify, co-ordinate and supervise tasks undertaken by the SSMG Constructive Team to support the maintenance of the design intent and availability of the UK Submarine Fleet.

Responsibilities:
- To be the primary point of contact, ensuring the conduct, quality and effectiveness of the technical services of the Constructive Design Team.
- To be the constructive lead on technical signatory for design matters.
- To line manage the Constructive Team Engineers in the implementation of their duties, as well as maintaining and developing professional and technical standards and capabilities of the Constructive Team.
- To carry out appraisals of the Constructive Team in order to interpret, implement and regulate team objectives with regards to business development, capability and performance.
- To guarantee the Constructive Team apply the correct SSMG project and quality requirements, fully understanding and addressing any special customer requirements.
- To ensure detailed documentation and records are maintained and assigned in the correct areas of work and that the proactive approach to customer support is adopted.
- To be a point of guidance to team members and fill the role of Task Owner, involving several elements ranging from providing specialist knowledge provider, planning and executing specific submarine design support and design change tasks. Tasks can also include the investigation and assessment of design specification and performance, undertaking design and safety reviews, the assessment of design specifications, technical documentation as well as compiling performance reports.
- To directly liaise with customers, other MoD project officers, suppliers, technical representatives and third parties.
- To effectively manage subcontractors and display strong skills in negotiation, conflict management and managing expectations of the customer.
Skills/Knowledge/Competencies:
- Direct experience within Submarine or Marine Vessel Design, operation and support exceeding 10 years.
- Experience in compiling comprehensive technical documentation including reports and design specifications.
Qualifications:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Constructive Design or similar.
- Chartered status in an appropriate professional body.
