THE CLIENT
We are recruiting on behalf of a blue chip ambient food manufacturer supplying traditional bakery goods to all UK retailers and a number of foodservice accounts. With a growth in development through EPD / NPD they are now looking to expand their development team with an intention to become the home of home bakery.

JOB PURPOSE
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of branded and own label product development projects from concept through to launch; working closely with key stakeholders to ensure that technical considerations are managed within the department.

REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reporting to the head of technical, and working within the marketing division.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
An HND/degree in food technology/natural science.
Experience in a food technical development environment and ability to make technically sound decisions based on good food technical knowledge.
Wide, and current, knowledge of food processes from solids to liquids under a variety of storage conditions.
A working knowledge of ambient food product development.
A solid practical understanding of analytical and preparation equipment routinely used in a food development laboratory.
Ability to communicate to all levels in the business
Resourceful and tenacious problem solving skills.
Ability to operate in a fairly autonomous environment with team leader support as required.
Good decision making skills and able to recommend routes forward around potential or real problems.
Strong planning and organisational skills.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Portfolio & Project Management - managing projects from bench through to production for both brand and own label products.
Creative Solutions - provide creative ideas and solutions as part of the project team to support overall project delivery in both NPD and EPD activities.
Safety of Product Launches - collecting technical information, interpreting and applying results from practical work in the laboratory and at site ensuring that all aspects of food safety and quality are managed for new product launches.
Factory Support - delivering effective technology support to manufacturing sites in particular, effective trial programmes.
Benchmarking - carrying out competitor benchmarking assessments with the marketing team and agreeing technical approaches for improvement.
HACCP - working knowledge and understanding of HACCP and quality control principles.
Presenting - presenting product development activities and updates to relevant project teams.
Communication - persuasive communication skills, written and oral particularly of technical considerations into a non-technical environment.

MUST HAVES
A previous background in ambient food development technology for >3 years.
Previous product development technology experience.
The ability to bring creativity to product development.
Dedication to a career in product development.
Project management and presentation experience.
