This is a demanding role requiring an experienced and capable business systems analyst who can
Play a key role in the development of database systems to support the Energy and Metals research teams product development initiatives. These initiatives will encompass a number of different components such as a database repository, a content management/authoring environment, data manipulation tools, a GIS database (ESRI) and data production tools
Work closely with business staff to elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis
Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
Challenge appropriately to ensure that business requirements are clear, robust and reflect commercial practicalities
Analyse and model data, by identifying entities and the relationships between entities
Work closely with Technology Designers to ensure a robust and flexible design is produced which will fully meet the requirements
Work closely with the development staff to ensure they understand requirements and successfully implement them
Operate across a significant proportion of the project development lifecycle, through business requirements, testing & implementation, documentation and knowledge handover
Produce a fully documented User Acceptance plan, and testing strategy
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to help ensure that the Technology team continues to provide excellent standards of service delivery
Support and assist colleagues by sharing knowledge and new ideas
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Proven experience of business analysis and technical requirements gathering are critical to success in the role
Strong knowledge and experience in the following technical areas is preferred
Oracle and/or SQL*Server database design and implementation
Knowledge of data analysis techniques leading to database design
Strong skills in Excel/MS-Access would be advantageous
Proven experience in implementing at least one significant database project
A knowledge of the Energy or Metals industries would be of benefit within the role
Project Management skills whilst not mandatory for the role would be beneficial
