You will lead the development of the Factual genre, across all UK sites. You will be responsible for developing a clear production strategy for the genre, working to ensure the creative success of the BBC’s in-house network teams across the UK.
Key Accountabilities
Clear editorial leadership of the genre for in-house production, pan BBC.
Delivery of the pan-UK editorial strategy for the genre, ensuring that content of wide appeal, quality and distinction is produced in line with production targets & commissioning ambitions
Genre development strategy, ensuring that development in each site is co-ordinated & complementary, maximising the potential for the genre’s success.
Maximising success in the WoCC & commercial income potential of content, when appropriate.
Line management of the senior genre editorial team, including 50:50 shared line management of the Nation Genre Head/editorial lead with Nations Head of Programmes.
Joint responsibility with commissioning for delivery of genre portrayal & NSR targets.
Creative and financial sustainability of each base within the genre, ensuring minimum viability levels are met.
Co-ordination of key talent within the genre, ensuring they are developed and deployed to greatest creative effect across the UK.
Overall financial & business performance of the genre, pan-UK.
Key relationship for the Genre with Genre Commissioning and the key conduit for information flow between commissioning and in-house teams.
Chair of Genre Board, ensuing an effective meeting structure, robust performance review, good communications and flow of information between members and across all sites.
To be the genre champion internally and externally and to represent both the genre & Vision Productions in dealing with individuals and organisations both in and outside of the BBC, nationally and internationally.
To maintain a strong presence in all genre sites, being visible and pro-active with teams and familiar with the output, individuals and issues specific to each one.
To work with the Commercial Agency and others to maximise commercial income and seek out and increase co-productions where appropriate.
Required Skills and Experience
Substantial Leadership experience of inspiring and motivating successful teams.
Strong Production credentials, with track-record delivering editorial excellence and the ability to engage commissioners and channel controllers and inspire their trust.
Deep expertise & understanding of the genre trends & output.
Knowledge, experience and understanding of working across the BBC.
