Assistant Commissioning Editor

Salary: £16,000 - £19,000 (depending on skills and experience)

35 Hours per week

The Role:
The Business, Management & Economics Division are seeking to appoint an Assistant Commissioning Editor for the Accounting, Finance & Economics Team.

The Assistant Commissioning Editor is responsible for managing editorial processing and scheduling of print products post commission through to publication, as well as providing administrative support to a number of team and marketing initiatives, and assisting in the ongoing development of individual titles.

Key responsibilities:
Editorial Processing

Management of editorial processes, copy flow and schedules of an allocated portfolio of titles, ensuring delivery of projects to Production to strict deadlines;

Processing and checking manuscripts, preparing instructions for production, including liaising with authors for any missing information, ensuring all copyright agreements, transfers and permissions are in place for all manuscripts;

Create and maintain title records in the department’s internal tracking system, reporting on and escalating any potential slippage, acceleration and/or permission issues as appropriate;

Stakeholder Management

Product Marketing

Product Development

Contribution to Team and Department Activities.

Contributing to Publishing Development and other Emerald projects on a regular basis;

Contributing to successful internal and external communications strategy to ensure all key stakeholders are kept informed of developments and progress;

Working cross-functionally with all relevant departments to ensure consistent and up-to-date information;

Presenting workshops at conferences and academic institutions

Includes:
Contribute to the ongoing strategic and editorial development of allocated titles;

Participate in and contribute to meetings about new products, market trends, competition, and strategic planning, as appropriate;

Attending author meetings and conferences, as appropriate.

Co-ordination of the PR and promotional campaign for each new title: ensuring marketing materials are created and distributed; announcement of new titles to the market; and that each title has appropriate web presence;

Serve as liaison between external stakeholders, commissioning editors and production staff, providing editorial and promotional support and responding to queries as necessary;

Processing and tracking author fees, royalty payments and gratis copies as appropriate;

Attributes:
The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Applicants must be team players and possess good organizational and IT skills, along with the ability to quickly establish credibility with editors and authors. Experience of working in a publishing environment would be advantageous.
