ASSIST, the specialist domestic abuse support and advocacy project, is expanding across the Strathclyde Police Force area. ASSIST works closely with statutory and voluntary services to deliver a pro-active, rapid and stream-lined response to those affected by domestic abuse. Working in close partnership with Strathclyde Police to a model that balances risk and safety, ASSIST’s ethos of placing the client at the centre of any intervention is crucial.

ASSIST is now recruiting staff to join the team in a variety of locations across Strathclyde and an opportunity has arisen for 2 CEDAR Coordinators. The main purpose of this role will be to develop, co-ordinate and deliver the community group work programme for children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse, and for their mothers as per the national CEDAR (Children Experiencing Domestic Abuse Recovery) programme guidance. This will consist of project development, multi-agency co-ordination, undertaking programme assessment/referrals, support for group participants, preparing and facilitating groups, training and monitoring and evaluation of outcomes.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate:
• A sound understanding of domestic abuse, its impact on children, families and communities and of best practice in relation to domestic abuse risk identification and risk management.
• Previous experience of providing a direct service to abuse victims/survivors, including crisis intervention, assessment of risk, safety planning, multi-agency advocacy, support and information.
• Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise under pressure and to work to tight deadlines.
• An ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions to avoid problems.
• An ability to manage change and new ways of working and communicate this to staff.

CEDAR Glasgow is led by a partnership between Glasgow City Council, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Glasgow Women’s Aid and ASSIST. This partnership project, and these posts, are part funded by the BIG Lottery Fund until 31 March 2015. Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment.
