Our client is the UK division of a leading global provider of title insurance and settlement services for residential and commercial real estate transactions.
One of its subsidiaries is a leading insurer of risks involving title and related areas of property and property finance.
They now now have an exciting opportunity for a high achiever to be involved in major property deals.
THE ROLE
As a Commercial Underwriter you will play a key role in driving business forward in the UK, with a particular focus on Scotland and Ireland.
The role will involve underwriting high net worth commercial legal indemnity risks, negotiating and maximising business profitability by means of effective and flexible underwriting decisions and techniques. Working within agreed limits, you will ensure the delivery of first class service to our clients.
A key part of the role will be the delivery of new business by servicing clients and offering and exploring product opportunities with new and existing clients. You will build strong relationships with clients, solicitors and brokers plus assist in the development of these relationships through presentations, meetings and corporate events.
In addition, you will be expected to work closely with the Head of Business Development to develop and mentor more junior members of the underwriting team.
You will be given appropriate underwriting and product training.
ABOUT YOU
This is an outstanding opportunity for a Scottish Solicitor/Qualified Lawyer with at least 4 years PQE who has detailed knowledge of the Scottish residential and commercial real estate market with proven experience of handling acquisitions and disposals, landlord & tenant and development work, and the sale and acquisition of commercial sites for development purposes. You will also have a keen interest in business development and will be able to demonstrate some experience of this.
Experience of Irish property transactions would be advantageous.
You must be a dynamic, ambitious, business minded professional, with sound commercial acumen together with proven ability to influence senior decision makers; you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, combined with a flair for negotiation and relationship building. You will be able to work on your own initiative and have a flexible approach to work.
