The Mechanical Engineer performs the engineering design function by applying his/her technical expertise in a professional manner in order to comply with prescribed objectives.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Understands and integrates top-level business goals with their technical activities.
- Assist in the development and establishment of new technologies and core technical competencies.
- Assist in the reviewing of client specifications, to ensure products are suitable for application.
- Raise exceptions to client specifications where products do not comply.
- Ensure optimum mechanical solutions will work with current product or proposed products.
- Ensure that the Project Execution Model Execution part is correctly utilised on projects.
- Assist in the development of prototypes, verification/validation units and product specifications, including material specifications, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Select "standard" products to suit system solution provided by system engineer.
- Liaise with Research & Development and Product Development and other engineering disciplines to ensure non-qualified products are suitable with current planned developments and ensuring current best practise all round.
- Has a continual awareness of new and advancing technologies and provides conceptual and practical applications for products used.
- May provide sustaining engineering direction and support for existing products.
- The Engineer is capable of identifying and implementing technical solutions to suit Aker Subsea needs.
- Additionally, when workload demands, the job holder may be assigned other duties as defined by the Supervisor.
Qualifications & personal attributes
- Degree or HNC/HND with relevant industry experience
- Demonstrable relevant Mechanical Engineering experience preferably within the Oil and Gas industry
- Will have a sound working knowledge of offshore working techniques and ideally will have had exposure to the offshore working environment
- Demonstrable experience in the ability to carry out all elements of mechanical design within Topside & Subsea Controls Systems covering Hydraulic and Electrical Power Distribution and Supply, Instrumentation and Flow measurement, material selection, and welding practices
- Demonstrable experience in the ability to carry out all elements of mechanical design within a Xmas Tree & Wellhead Subsea System with the inclusion of operating/running tools, material selection, and welding practices
- Preferably Chartered Engineer Status
