Our Heavy Rail Business Unit is a 200 strong employer of rail professionals developing and delivering multi-disciplinary design solutions across permanent way, signalling, telecoms, electrical, mechanical, civils and geotechnical engineering. The Role
URS are currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer (Civil / Structural) to lead the design & project management for bridge structure & rail infrastructure works for our Heavy Rail Business Unit in Glasgow.
The Glasgow Mini Operating Unit is responsible for the delivery of railway system designs covering; Signalling, Telecommunications, Permanent Way and E&P disciplines.
The Principal Engineer will be responsible for managing a design team, ensuring quality standards and procedures are maintained, staff are motivated staff and deadlines are met.
Knowledge of design of bridge structures and railway infrastructure works will be required, giving guidance on design issues and reviewing documentation prior to issue. Responsibilities will include undertaking fee calculations for schemes and developing proposals. The position will be able to act as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer for schemes as set out in the Network Rail Standard.
There will be commercial aspects of the role with market analysis, experience of contracts & proposals, assisting in the tendering of bids, and client presentations all key requirements.
Further responsibilities will include the training and development of staff and contributing to improving the quality of information, methods, deliverables and systems.
Ideally candidates will have Rail & Bridge experience as well as multidisciplinary projects.
