Atkins is one of the world's leading rail engineering consultancies, with its rail business being the largest in its field in Europe.
We undertake engineering consultancy and design services for Network Rail, London Underground and other light rail networks. Our rail projects include S&C Renewal works, multi functional railway enhancement works, resignalling schemes, bridge strengthening and replacement designs and major station developments.
We are currently recruiting for a CAD apprentice to be trained as a CAD Technician to become a key member of the civil engineering design team based in Derby. The team produces civil engineering designs from feasibility through to detailed design.
Responsibilities
The suitable candidate will work within the civil engineering design team in producing the relevant designs and drawings. This will be achieved by working closely with the lead designer to produce a quality product. You will also work closely with other design teams within the business on multi functional project opportunities providing an integrated service that will delight our clients.
Technical support and shared workload opportunities would be supplied through the National Heads of Technology and wider Atkins Rail organisation.
Requirements
- Familiarity with Autocad 2000 or later, Microstation or other CAD packages
- Basic understanding of the civil engineering industry
- Good communication and listening skills
- Proactively seek out advice and counsel from the designers
- Acts in the best interest of the team at all times
- Keen to commit to personal development and growth
- Ability and personality to learn, absorb and process the engineering principles from the designers
- Ability to use and apply the engineering principles for future work
- Competent user of Microsoft office tools, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook and
- Technically minded, numerate, organised and have attention to detail.
