Ideal Shopping are seeking a Buyer who will be responsible for their own product category. You will have accountability for sourcing and developing an impressive product range with a view to driving both sales and profitability.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- To develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the market, supplier base, competitors and customer requirements for all products/services within your category. To provide input for comparative retail analysis to support price and positioning.
- Maximise sales and profit of the trading category through effective management of the product proposition through different channels to market.
- Work with the General Manager, Senior Buyer and Merchandiser to formulate a sales, stock & through put plan, using available tools, and meeting the Business Strategy targets for turnover, profit and stock. Own the sales targets.
- Work with the Merchandiser and the Warehouse team on the management of stock, commitments and events planning. To supply market information as appropriate, including the pricing of aged stock to maximise profitability via the chosen disposal route.
- To work with QA team to ensure that the selected range meets expected quality standards and to monitor and resolve any issues on an ongoing basis.
- To work within the determined sourcing strategy to identify, source and purchase merchandise to meet targets in terms of range width, customer choice and price. Using available levers to assist these activities. To determine supplier objectives e.g. delivery performance and return arrangements. To negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best possible prices for the customer whilst maintaining and developing supplier relationships. Ensure that major suppliers in particular are aware of and able to meet the challenges of the Business Plan in line with their strategic importance to Ideal Shopping.
- Ensure that product selection processes, including the capture of required merchandise information, are performed on a timely basis to enable the smooth running of the business process for TV, WEB and promotional events.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day management and development of the Assistant Buyer and Buyer's Administration Assistant.
Who we're looking for
You will be a proven retail buyer with a track record of delivering well constructed ranges that meet your customers expectations. Results orientated, constantly striving to increase sales and profitability over a sustained period of time. This experience will ideally have been gained within a relevant product area and have included both branded and directly sourced products. Whilst multi channel retail experience is desired those from a single channel environment will also be strongly considered.
You will be a highly driven, confident, and a decisive negotiator with the ability to manage important relationships. Excellent communication skills, resilience and the ability to plan and work under pressure will be key to success in the role.
In addition to the above a passion for trading is essential. The unique nature of the Ideal Shopping model means it trades live, so we are looking for buyers who have an ability to maximise the potential of this.
