An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Communications Executive with a well establised Northern Ireland based Charity.
The purpose of this post is to support the Communication Manager to develop and implement communications plans, maximizing and growing internal and external PR and communications. The Charity has exciting plans to build a new site and this post will be key to meeting our objectives by managing the ‘business as usual’ communications plan at hospice under the direction and support of the Communications Manager i.e. implementing communication plans for retail, volunteers, fundraising, developing new leaflets, website, social media platforms and management of the Communications Officer.
Job Description
Main Duties
- To supervise the Communications Officer on a day to day basis providing professional guidance and support.
- To contribute to the development and delivery of the overall communications
strategy.
- To develop and maintain strong working relationships with media, and to respond to media enquiries in a timely and effective manner.
- To plan and implement communication projects as directed
- To brief media on all key messages and campaigns.
- To draft press releases and statements for use by media and key influencers.
- To assist with event management of campaign launches, press conferences and other media events, and set up photo calls as appropriate.
- To draft and implement PR / Communication project plans and evaluations organisation wide.
- To co-ordinate and liaise with charity champions and ambassadors – press, media, celebrities and key influencers.
- To support the brand positioning of the Charity , internally and externally.
- To develop communication tools - website and intranet, promotional materials and social networking sites.
- To manage and maintain relationships with media and key stakeholders
- To produce communication materials, including website and intranet, and any other promotional ventures.
- To draft key messages for speeches and public presentations as appropriate.
- To ensure the consistency of key messages across all activities.
- To work to the public relations budget ensuring the efficient use of resources.
- Provide regular analysis and reports on communication trends, the external environment and competitor activity.
- To deputise for the Communications Manager as required
- To supervise and support the implementation of team and individual operational
plans.
- To provide regular activity feedback on targets to the Communications Manager
and colleagues in Income Generation, PR and Marketing.
- Ensure that the team presents a positive and professional external image which
promotes the vision, aims principles and objectives.
- Co-operate with and support volunteers where appropriate.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Qualifications and Training
- A minimum of five GCSE’s, including English Language, at Grades A-C (or equivalent qualifications)
- Strong IT skills to include a working knowledge of on line media and social networking.
- A full valid driving licence with access to a car or some other appropriate form of transport to carry out the duties of the post in full.
Experience
- At least two year’s experience of working in PR / Communications or a related discipline.
- Experience of successfully implementing a complete communications plan
- Proven experience of researching, writing and editing materials for publication.
- Proven experience of online social networking sites for campaigns/events/brand awareness
- Demonstrable experience of successfully implementing a communications campaign.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in writing.
- Experience of supervising staff and/or volunteers
- Ability to lead and motivate staff and volunteers.
- Ability to effectively produce proposals, reports and plans.
- Personal Skills and Abilities
- Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proven ability to prioritise work and deliver under pressure to tight deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
- Third level qualification in Public Relations/Communications or a related discipline.
- Experience of databases, including Raisers Edge.
