We are looking for a 4th line data engineer to support the NOC of the national telecommunications company, based in Peterborough. You should be of Cisco CCNP calibre and will be responsible for management and support of business customers WAN/LAN and security services.
We are also keen to speak to people willing to relocate.
Salary is 37k-42k depending on experience, plus 2k call allowance.
Key Duties
- Rectify complex faults and resolve complex design flaws offering 4th line assistance.
- Act as 'Customer Champions' for the larger customer contracts. These networks are large and complex and are fully managed and supported by the Data Engineers.
- Where a new customer is being introduced, the Data Engineer will manage this customer into support, ensuring the correct solution is being implemented, that all support processes are in place,
- Remedy profiles and other data bases are correct, and they will perform training sessions to educate other support functions.
- Sign-off to non-standard designs, identifying any non-supportable elements and ensuring that these elements are tested and trained out to the NOC prior to any solution being deployed
- Ensure customer solutions are effectively introduced into the NOC to ensure any service assure requirements can be meet and effectively provided once introduced into the NOC.
- Provide training sessions on customer solutions to the rest of the NOC
- Investigate and resolve service affecting events regarding service availability and performance according to Problem Management Procedure to identify root cause, locate maintenance and support provider for the affected component and manage implementation of remedial actions to restore service levels.
- Prioritise daily faults, change requests and provisioning project tasks.
- Provide 4th line support to the Operations Centre (BOC) for WAN/LAN customers including fault escalation.
- Work with Customers to identify / obtain information / resolve fault / handle security issue.
- Write and maintain accurate service and management system documentation
- Provide regular reports to management and customers of solution provisioning, service availability performance and security measurements.
- Maintain an understanding of emerging products, technologies, management systems and also company quality standards, procedures and business policies.
- Attend additional technical training courses to develop technical expertise
- Attend customer site visits / training / installation or troubleshooting situations involving occasional overnight stays away from home.
Required Experience
- Substantial experience in IT/telecommunications/data networking
- Supporting WAN/LAN network installations
- Resolving complex network faults
- Creating technical documentation to high standard
- Providing technical training
- Operational experience of Cisco Routers and/or Switches and WWP LE switches preferred
- CCNA/CCNP or similar
- Supporting an MPLS network and Ethernet services
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and common routing protocols
- Knowledge of OSS platforms, specifically HP NA, HP NNMi, Cisco Works, Ciena ESM, Alcatel SAM, IBM NetCool preferred
You should be able to support a callout rota (approx 1 week in 4) to provide 24 x 7 x 365 SOC team out of hours cover and work occasional overtime when required - this will result in an on call allowance that will be in the region of £2,000 a year.
You would also be entitled to a 10% of basic salary, KPI linked bonus, pension, private healthcare and 25 days holiday.
Role is mainly in Peterborough but you may visit customer sites, thus driving license required.
