- Should have a technical educational background that would qualify him/her for professional engineering status, i.e. HNC or degree in an appropriate discipline.
- Demonstrated project management skills and record of delivery of projects within pharmaceutical or fine chemicals environment of up to £3.0M
- Broad understanding of pharmaceutical or fine chemicals manufacture
- General awareness of business issues with particular emphasis on Financial Plans and Project Management Principles.
- Strong customer focus

- Ideally a Chartered Engineer in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Green belt accreditation
- Good working knowledge of SAP.
- Understanding of Primavera software package and it’s capabilities
Details:
Job Purpose -
To project manage, co-ordinate and control engineering projects as assigned by the Projects Leader.
To provide Project Management and co-ordinate site Project Engineers on larger projects.
To support the Projects Leader to develop new and improved project delivery processes on the Montrose site or the Irvine site.
There will be no direct reports for this role , however, will typically manage Project Teams comprising members from various Business Areas and Contract Teams supporting the site’s project delivery process. These teams will typically be up to 15-20 members.The role may also deputise for Engineering Projects Leader.
Key Responsibilties -
- Plans and manages the project delivery process for projects or assigned parts of larger projects and Global Capital Projects (GCP) Shared Service managed projects, from typically Feasibility to Handover & Close-out to assure an outcome which meets all of the defined project objectives for cost, schedule, quality & safety and delivers the business benefits
- Undertakes Feasibility/Scheme Designs and supports Project Engineers on smaller projects, and may be required to give technical support to other site teams or initiatives
- Works with departmental managers, and the designated GCP Project Managers on specific projects, to clearly define project business drivers, objectives, and success criteria
- Facilitates the development of User Requirement Briefs (URB) with the end user. Ensures Vendor/Supplier provides Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and develops the User Requirement Specifications (URS) in a validatable format, and supports the Project Engineers in the same on smaller projects.
- Inputs to the Project Plan documenting the project delivery strategy and the success criteria according to the Montrose / Irvine Project Engineering procedures
- Manages the day-to-day plant installation work, or supports the Project Engineers in doing so on larger projects, liaising with contractors and the site Operations teams as necessary ensuring compliance to the Project Engineering Team and EHS Standards.
- Ensures all “After Action Reviews” and “Post Project Reviews” are conducted at the relevant times
- Forms project teams, or assists GCP Project Managers to do so on larger projects, and assigns individual work responsibilities to all members of the team including Project Engineers. Monitors and appraises the individual and team performance to assure project success.
- Uses proven selection processes to develop the appropriate contract strategy for the project, selects and manages contractors in accordance with site EHS and Project Engineering Team standards
- Prepare commissioning & handover strategies that fully complies with the Site requirements and implements to ensure a timely and complete handover to the Customer.
- Implements strict project and financial controls on projects under their control and regularly provides updates for the Project Ladder.
- Establishes a risk management strategy for projects under their control and implements associated processes and tools to ensure effective identification, monitoring and management of project risk
- Keeps the Projects Leader (and where required the GCP PM) informed of critical issues that could jeopardise project success.
- Keeps up to date with regulations and standards; both internal and regulatory that are relevant to the work of the site Project Engineering Team.
- Ensures the Identification, facilitation and implementation of project related training, project documentation and engineering spares.
- Works in conjunction with the site OE team and openly embraces the principles and tools of lean manufacturing.
- Ensures compliance with the guidelines for “Life Cycle Validation”, in conjunction with the Project Engineer/Validation Expert, and follows agreed ways of working in the implementation of the validation process.
- May fulfil the role of Site or Company “expert” in specialist areas, and as such will be responsible for writing and owning some standards and procedures.
