My client is currently seeking two Welfare Benefits Advisor's for 10month contracts based in Glasgow one position is 35hours per week and the other is 21hours per week (Wed/Thurs/Fri) the contract will last until March 2013. The position is to ensure that the income of frontline services and their tenants are maximised through uptake of Welfare Benefits and Housing Benefits. The job holder will carry the formal responsibility for delivering the following outputs and they will be achieved through effective working relationships with those in the identified job interdependencies.
Hold regular benefit surgeries for tenants
Conduct effective campaigns regarding, for example, the introduction of a new benefit or highlighting existing benefits.
Ensure Glasgow City Council implement benefit increases accurately and timeously
Attend relevant forums or work groups
Coach and share knowledge with colleagues in relevant changes made to Housing Benefit or Social Security Legislation.
Financial assessments of existing and new tenants fully prepared, with assistance provided for benefit claims where appropriate.
Benefit accurately calculated at tenant signing up date, if required for complex cases.
Backdated claims made on behalf of tenants, as appropriate.
Overpayments dealt with
Appropriate correspondence regarding change of circumstances provided
Annual revisions, stops and changes to Housing Benefits payment accurately managed
Experience in the delivery of a welfare rights service, including training others in welfare rights, in a results orientated environment
Excellent numeracy skills and ability to interpret evolving legislation and procedures
Excellent communicator, internal and external, with an ability to communicate complex matters clearly and concisely
Ability to act as an effective representative for tenants at appeals and other tribunals.
Experienced in organising workloads to achieve priorities and objectives.
Experienced in successfully planning for change.
Good interpersonal, negotiating, mediating and presentational skills.
