Associate - Employment
We have an opportunity for an associate to join the Employment department in the Edinburgh office of this nationwide firm. The key aspects of the role will be employment litigation, providing HR advice and support to clients, policy and procedure drafting, non-contentious support along with delivering client training.
Core tasks:
- Drafting ET3 submissions
- Taking and drafting witness statements
- Analysing and evaluating evidence of cases, deciding upon which strategy to take
- Conducting pre-hearing reviews
- Appearance at employment tribunals
- Providing clients with advice in relation to day-to-day employment law matters via phone, email and face to face
- Review of contracts and policies and procedures for clients
- Providing employment support on corporate transactions
- Advising clients on termination of employment
- Drafting compromise agreements
- Delivering training to clients, as part of a team, on employment law issues
- Supervising the work of more junior team members
- Assisting in implementing the department's business development strategy
Person specification:
- Approximately 4-6 years post qualified experience of working in a contentious employment role is essential
- Takes personal responsibility to learn on the job and keep knowledge up to date
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Communicates in a confident, clear and relaxed way
- Adapts style of communication appropriately when dealing with colleagues and clients
- Demonstrates strong research skills
- Takes responsibility for their own caseload subject to supervision
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Shows understanding of client's needs and tailors advice appropriately
- Works to understand the department's key clients, the industry they operate in and the challenges they face
