An exciting opportunity has arisen to carry out pioneering research on an EPSRC Funded feasibility project “Laser based metrology for wind turbine condition monitor and alignment”. The research will involve using laser based metrology techniques to capture the positional changes of wind turbines in service and aligning drivelines in wind turbines.

The project will involve close collaboration with Nikon Metrology UK Ltd and Vestas. Some travel to these Industrial Partners will be required.

Undertaking technical reviews of the relevant literature
Understand the operational features of the wind turbine and influence factors for the wind turbine positional changes in service.
Contribute to the development of a method for wind turbine 3D Images tracking in assisting wind turbine maintenance
Contribute to the development of large scale metrology measurement procedures for large and unconstrained parts
Written and oral contributions to research articles for leading journals and conferences will be expected
To present the research results at appropriate meetings and venues.
Person Specification
Essential
To hold a high class honours degree in Engineering or a related technical subject.
Excellent mathematical skills
Knowledge of laser metrology measurement techniques and wind turbine 3D Image tracking in assisting wind turbine maintenance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to publish scientific papers
Ability to meet tight deadlines
