Responsibilities Provide technical analysis to support weapon and experiment design, performance and safety assessments Present models and results at meetings and conferences in the UK and overseas To interact with other material modellers and experimentalists To deliver work of high technical quality, in accordance with agreed objectives To deliver on schedule the tasks specified in performance plans Provide support and advice to users of the models Prepare technical reports To understand and apply personal responsibilities with regard to the Company's Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards Qualifications Essential Degree in physics, engineering science, or equivalent experience Desirable PhD, or equivalent experience, relating to the simulation of dynamic deformation in metals Knowledge Essential Knowledge of materials science and mechanics relating to the deformation of materials Desirable Knowledge of computational methods for dynamic strength modelling in metals Experience Essential Experience of computer programming for scientific/numerical applications Application of scientific and numerical analysis to long-term project work Desirable Experience of working in a team to develop a computational model to describe a physical system Experience of code development on Unix-based systems Experience of strength, molecular dynamics, or dislocation dynamics modelling Skills Essential Computer programming in a compiled language (such as C, C++ or Fortran) A logical and analytical approach to problem solving Good technical communication skills, including the ability to communicate scientific results in presentations and written reports Ability to build effective internal and external working relationships Desirable Numerical algorithm design and implementation Behaviours Can work alone on own initiative or as part of a team Open and supportive attitude to enquiries from users and colleagues High personal standards of quality for work Demonstrates behaviours in line with company values (pride, excellence, innovation and trust) Special Requirements Some UK and overseas travel will be required including short periods away from home
