The Petroleum Geochemist provides a specialist technical excellence consultancy service in support of the worldwide E&P activities of the various BG Group assets. In addition, through a technology programme you will monitor the development of new and evolving technologies and investigate their relevance and applicability with the aim of their implementation.
Key Accountabilities
Provides a specialist technical excellence consultancy service in support of the worldwide E&P activities of the various BG Group assets. Ensures that all work meets customer requirements and is delivered in a timely and cost effective manner.
Monitors the development of new and evolving technologies and investigates their relevance and applicability with the aim of their implementation within the various assets.
Provides a focal point for problems specific to petroleum geochemistry and advises or seeks external advice to resolve them.
Performs specialist petroleum geochemistry functions including design of sampling requirements for wells and regional surveys, planning chemical analytical programmes, QA/QC of chemical analysis, data handling and interpretation. Specialist support interpreting mud gas data for the gas while drilling service is also provided for drilling operations.
Organises and manages various external contractors for specialist services.
Manages and QCs the BG Group petroleum geochemistry database, which is maintained by a technical assistant.
Maintains close links with specialist software vendors to ensure latest software developments are implemented.
Forges and maintains close links with industry experts, research institutes and universities specialising in petroleum geochemistry and ensures that BG Group keeps abreast of and implements best practices.
Champions petroleum geochemistry and transfers knowledge to both the Exploration and Development departments and assets via internal publications, the Technical Forum, asset presentations and informal discussions.
Works closely with other petroleum systems specialists to develop new geochemical methods and workflows.
Mentors and coaches of junior geoscientists and graduates in geochemistry.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
An experienced petroleum systems analyst, youll have an MSc or PhD in geochemistry.
Were looking for someone who can demonstrate mastery across a range of petroleum geochemistry skills, such as design of geochemical analysis programmes, source rock characterisation; oil-to-source, oil-to-oil and oil-to-gas correlations; oil and gas maturity indicators; petroleum quality predictions - including assessment of biodegradation risk; geochemical methods associated with reservoir appraisal and field development. In addition, experience in GWD techniques and the interpretation of such data is needed.
You should be highly motivated with excellent interpersonal, communication, knowledge sharing and influencing skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
An ability to interact with BG Group assets to customise projects at both the basin and reservoir scale is needed.
