Senior HR Adviser

Our client, a leading International Law firm in Belfast, who have grown significantly over the last few years, have an opportunity for a professional forward thinking Senior HR Adviser/ Officer to join this highly regarded business partnering HR function. Supporting one of the most valuable client groups to the firm, you pride yourself in delivering a first class HR service.

Key responsibilities

Employee Relations;
Provide expert guidance, being part of the management team and supporting the team to ensure all employee issues are resolved promptly, with the emphasis on building excellent relationships and instilling trust

Be the first point of contact for all HR issues

Undertake disciplinaries, grievances and appeals autonomously

Support management of all flexible working requests

Proactively identify changes and improvements to employment policy and practices, ensuring that new policies are effectively communicated and implemented

Support the management team with the implementation and delivery of the performance review process (annual performance review and mid year)

Manage the annual salary review and bonus process, working closely with the Reward & Benefit team

Support the business with headcount planning

Support the accounts team with coordination of budget processes

Support line managers with the management of poor performance

Responsibility for ensuring the Holiday Calendar is up to date (supervising the PAs) and monitoring the operation of the absence approval process

Monitor and manage all office sickness absence (including referrals to Occupational Health as necessary)

Manage long term sickness and PHI claims where necessary

Manage the maternity leave process for employees

Be responsible for the creation and upkeep of the HR Belfast intranet pages

Be responsible for the annual practicing certificate renewal of qualified fee earners in the Belfast office

Ensure compliance with the obligations set out in regards to data monitoring for the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (including in relation to recruitment, see below)

Manage ad hoc projects (e.g. employee opinion survey) or research or requests generated by the management team (e.g. coaching)

In a new business where many members of the team are line managing for the first time (having had legal rather than management backgrounds), to offer guidance, support and advice as appropriate to ensure the consistency of the approach to people management across the office and to assist with the development of on-going or periodic training for the senior team (see further in relation to Learning & Development).

Recruitment and Selection;

Responsible for the entire recruitment and selection process, maintaining quality control of the process

Recruitment of staff at all levels utilising the most cost efficient and effective methods

Interview or assess candidates as necessary and ensure process is in line with best practice

Coordinate the assessment centre process

Support the business with resource planning

Compile recruitment business cases for approval by the Belfast Office Director, Human Resources Manager (Disputes) and/or Global Head of Disputes Division, if required

Provide advice and guidance to recruiting managers throughout the process

Build good relationships with external recruitment agencies and manage the service provided
Joiners & leavers;

Reviewing, co-ordinating and implementing the induction process for new joiners

Conduct new joiner chats, collate feedback and communicate to the appropriate people as necessary

Conduct exit interviews and communicate feedback to the appropriate people as necessary

Oversee the probation review process
Learning and Development;

In consultation with the management team, identify and meet development needs in respect of the office population

Co-ordinate annual and mid-year promotions, where appropriate

To work with the Director and/or Quality Manager on people management training for the senior team, as appropriate

You will be a well organised, commercial and intelligent HR generalist with a track record of building strong relationships with internal clients built upon sound technical knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills.

A minimum of four years' generalist experience, ideally educated to degree level or equivalent, and ideally CIPD qualified. Graduate caliber candidates with at least four years 'generalist experience, preferably with some Professional Services experience although those with less or more experience will be considered.
