INTERFACE MANAGER – GLASGOW
Primary Purpose of the Role:
The Interface Manager has responsibility on important and critical projects or programmes to ensure that the technical and project risks associated with the engineering and deployment of our Transportation solutions are managed in a professional way and that clear understanding of contract compliance and deliverables are communicated to the Thales Project team and also with our customer / stakeholders
Principal Relationships:
The principal relationships within the Thales organisation are with the functions who deliver the engineering, construction, test and commissioning of complex systems.
Provides key input to the PMO on programme interfaces, risks with direct support to the Project Director
Direct relationships with all stakeholders who interface with the Thales project and engineered solution, covering all aspects of engineering and delivery within the project
Provides Senior Management input to the Thales Executive team, UK Group and Division on all aspects of Project delivery
Provides expert input and management to all Thales functions involved in the delivery of the project
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Keeps the Project Director informed of all interface risks both internally, with other suppliers / contractors and the customer or his agents. Ensuring that all aspects of engineering integration and interfaces are understood by all Project team members
Work with the project management office team to identify interface issues covering all aspects of the project and ensure they are addressed and managed throughout the project and included in the delivery programme
Manage the customer dialogue and with other stakeholders to ensure there is a full understanding of our solution and the relevant interfaces. The scope of our solutions include Signalling, Telecommunications and complex systems such as SCADA
Ensuring the correct and competent resources are being employed on the project to ensure that we provide a comprehensive and compliant solution.
Conduct reviews with the Project team to ensure all engineering and delivery aspects are understood and being implemented in accordance with the programme and budget
Ability to perform the duties on one or more projects at any one time dependent on scale and complexity
Ability to operate within or to lead a bid team on specific Project opportunities
Skills
Essential
Wide exposure and experience of Rail Engineering including Signalling and Telecom systems which are both trainborne and infrastructure based.
Complete understanding of Rail interfaces and system integration to ensure the project is delivered to time, budget and programme.
Presenting at an Executive level the challenges and solutions to issues as forecast or as they arise
Responsible for supplier management and integration into the Project delivery and programme
Experience of managing large and complex multi-discipline Rail projects from a Project Management and Engineering perspective
Excellent communicator and Leader

Experience:
Essential
Extensive experience of delivering complex multi-disciplinary Rail projects in a Senior Management position
Commercial dexterity to ensure we remain in contract compliance throughout the project
Understanding of engineering interfaces, including ‘rail / wheel’ interfaces to ensure integration and compliance are achieved with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to manage all functions supporting a project to ensure interfaces are understood and that there is active engagement to provide seamless delivery

Financial / Budgetary Responsibility:
The Interface Manager will have direct responsibility for the management of the Project(s) risk register and the agreed budget for the Project.
Qualifications:
Essential
Key essential qualifications are a minimum degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Will previously have been in a Senior role delivering complex multi-disciplinary Rail projects
Ability to step up to the position of Project Director as required
Desirable
A management qualification such as an MBA or DMS would be desirable
Qualifications in Risk Management or a member of the APM or equivalent
