Basic Requirements
- Able to provide input to site plans to allow continuous improvement of standards to meet engineering and regulatory expectations.
- Detailed knowledge required of instrumentation and control systems and be able to interpret and implement standards (e.g. S88, IEC61508) and implement engineering solutions.
- Detailed knowledge of process control system programming and configuration and be able to provide technical assistance to control and instrumentation technicians.
- A working knowledge of validation requirements as applied to control and instrument systems.
Preferred qualifications:

- Engineering/Science Degree with proven process industry experience, with Corporate Membership of The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) or Institute of Measurement & Control (IMC).
- Some level of Management Experience.
- Awareness / Management of Enterprise wide data acquisition system (e.g. Aspen)
- CFSP/ CFSE qualified
- Good DeltaV knowledge
Details:
Job Purpose -
- Responsible for all automation matters on the Montrose site - safety, quality, CS validation, policies, standards, maintenance, training & mentoring instrument and control staff.
- Provides specialist technical and managerial leadership for automation mainly to projects, plant modifications, continuous improvement, EHS and maintenance operations.
- Defines the design, installation, commissioning, operations continuing maintenance, testing and CS validation philosophies relating to automation systems.
- Ensures continuing support for all automation systems are in place.
Key Responsibilities -
- Professional Engineering guidance and authorisation of plant modifications.
- Authorisation of MERPs data, routines and maintenance tasks.
- Authorisation of changes to site procedures (LSOP’s) following review of company documents/standards.
- Authorisation of Engineering Line Drawings.
- Authorisation of Software changes and procedures.
- Authorisation of Control Systems Validation documentation.
- Owner/Contact for Control Systems on the Site System Register.
- Requires a high degree of problem solving and the ability to troubleshoot, facilitate decisions and weigh-up advantages and disadvantages in order to provide solutions.
- Interpretation and application of standards is essential.
- Assists in offsite automation recommendations/decisions within Central Shared Service.
- Provides recommendations, effective solutions and guidance to Engineering staff and project design staff.
- Continually improving plant, equipment and maintenance techniques in order to deliver better, faster, lower cost products.
- A technical specialist, responsible for exploiting new engineering technologies.
- Development and implementation of best practice.
- Ownership of maintenance life cycle plans (establish, update, review).
- Carry out failure investigations and recommending improvements in design or maintenance practices.
- Implement Maintenance Improvement techniques (PACE, Lean Sigma/OE techniques, Leading Edge).
- Ensures Global Automation standards and relevant Agile Shared Service recommendations are implemented consistently to the automation systems across site.
- Maintenance nominee on specific projects and accepts project handover ensuring maintenance routines and spares are in place.
- As part of Group/site teams - develop, review, update, interpret and apply Engineering standards (GES’s/SEP’s/LSOPs).
- Auditing maintenance and plant operations for compliance with relevant engineering standards and statutory requirements (e.g. GES’s/SEP’s, ISA standards).
- Develop & contribute to Key Performance Indicators.
Other requirements -
- The role involves strong networking with other Lead Engineers, Project Managers & Engineers, Engineering Team Managers, Design Office staff, MERPS & maintenance staff. Frequent contact with other departments, particularly Validation, Operations, EHS & IT.
- The role would be expected to provide guidance on all automation matters to all staff/managers/departments on site and, where appropriate influence their decisions.
- A good working relationship with Global automation partners (e.g. BWA, Zenith) is essential.
