Purpose of role
The successful candidate will be member of the Barclays Wealth legal team who are responsible for:
Providing proactive and innovative legal advice in relation to products, projects and resolving business issues,
Ensuring that all legal documentation (standard banking forms, credit facilities, documents related to financial products, etc.) and policies are properly drafted and maintained,
Managing client complaints, HR disputes as well legal proceedings initiated either by clients or the Bank,
Evaluating, highlighting, reducing legal risk across all businesses within the Bank.
Key clients (internal and external)
The position will involve interaction with the Front Office, the various infrastructure functions of the Bank as well as outside counsel.
High net worth Client related activities: The successful candidate will advise the business on structured lending transactions and other banking activities; provide legal support with respect to the Bank's investment and fiduciary products and documentation; develop and maintain forms, procedures and processes as well as providing advice and support on individual transactions.
Third party management: As the department is relatively small, the role holder will be expected to advise in areas outside of his or her speciality. Where necessary, outside counsel advice will be obtained and managed.
Legal risk management: The successful candidate will identify and manage legal risk by establishing and reinforcing corporate governance and ensuring the business operates in accordance with the principle risk parameters adopted by Barclays Wealth. The successful candidate will work in coordination with Compliance and Risk to address key legal and regulatory developments and give legal support to projects affecting the entire wealth management area of the Bank by writing and implementing policies on cross-border legal and regulatory issues
The successful candidate will possess a solid working experience as a Legal Advisor within either a leading private bank or a law firm active in the financial and banking field.
Academic and professional qualifications
The successful candidate will be a qualified lawyer. A postgraduate diploma will be an advantage.
The successful candidate will possess excellent command of English and French with strong written and verbal communication skills and will be able to communicate effectively across all levels. The knowledge of German, Italian or any other major European language is desirable.
Pro-active, organised and conscientious, the right candidate will have a sound judgement and possess excellent problem-solving skills. A self starter, able to deliver quality results with a challenging, positive, influential style, the successful candidate will have the capacity to work under stress and tight deadlines, with an excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a sound commercial approach with the capacity to implement business solutions which balance local needs with Group requirements.
