As this is a missionary role it is open first of all to those meeting the requirements and seeking fulltime Christian service in a non-employed capacity. If you are seeking employment you can register your interest with us and we will contact you in due course if the position is not filled.

Most people serving full time with CLC are part-supported by friends, interested contacts, etc. CLC can cover certain domestic costs and a monthly allowance is available but you will need to raise some level of personal support. THE ROLE
To promote a profitable Christian bookselling operation as a means of bringing people to Christ and building them up in their faith so that the charity can give to literature projects overseas and develop is ministry in the UK

PRIMARY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Shop Manager, Shop Team, Retail Director
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES in addition to other tasks that you may be asked to do:
Obtain knowledge of the stock and know where to find the items in the shop, in catalogues and on databases
Keep stock in a clean and tidy condition
Display competence in the use of till transactions, calculator, computer, EPOS...
Observe basic security procedures and respect the charity's and our customers' confidentiality
Understand and implement CLC sales policy
Maintain pleasant and courteous attitude to customers at all times and especially re queries and complaints
Maintain tidy personal appearance in line with CLC policy
Education
The minimum educational qualifications typically looked for are passes in English and Mathematics at GCSE or equivalent. Being a specialist bookshop, a relevant subject qualification (eg having been to Bible College) is an added commendation.
Experience
Previous experience in any sort of bookshop will be regarded as a definite plus. That said, any retail work is relevant experience.
Personal Qualities

To deal successfully with customers, you need a confident and friendly personality.
You should like people, and like helping them.
You need a quick understanding and should be able to express yourself easily and clearly in face to face and phone conversations.
You must be of good appearance and able to maintain a pleasant manner through a long and often arduous working day.
You must keep cool under pressure: all sorts of jobs have to be slotted into available moments, and at busy times you will rarely be able to finish any one job without interruption.
Enthusiasm and physical stamina are necessary traits for a bookseller. You'll be on your feet most of the day, and unpacking, displaying and moving books can be more physically demanding than you might imagine.
You will be able to use a computer with some confidence and be able and willing to learn new software.

Employment or Non-employment?
CLC International (UK) has a hybrid support system for its staff. Our part time and full time staff is a combination of employees and volunteers. Part time volunteers can be reimbursed for their work-related travel costs. Full time volunteers are supported partly by CLC via a non-guaranteed allowance funded by gift income, and CLC can cover certain domestic costs. In addition, such volunteers are supported in their work by friends, family, churches etc.
