Mechanical Design Engineer

Forum Energy Technologies require a Mechanical Design Engineer who wil l be part of a multi-disciplined engineering team that supports the manufacture of remote controlled electro-mechanical and hydraulic products (ROV’s) that are used in harsh environments. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering support to production, service and sales department for Sub-Atlantic’s product portfolio and customer specific configuration of systems and assemblies. The position is based in Blackburn.

Responsibilities:
Modeling of complex parts and assemblies and production of detailed drawings and assembly drawings in Solidworks.

Detailed checking of drawings, for dimensional accuracy, tolerances and presentation.

Analysis of the equipment involving; force and stress analysis, mechanism analysis, and hydraulic and electro-mechanical analysis of drive systems involving motors, gearing and actuators. The analysis will involve hand calculations and spread sheets with Mathcad and Excel, and finite element analysis with Solidworks Simulation.

Interaction with electronic design engineers to ensure product is designed concurrently with electronic component integration.

Interaction with purchasing/stores/production/quality departments to ensure that parts and builds and product manuals are as per the design drawings.

Providing technical support to the sales department in the preparation of proposals.

Dealing with internal and external non-compliance of parts and engineering change notices.

Performing work in accordance with Company procedures and guidelines.

Accountabilities:
Directly responsible for the mechanical design of new products and upgrading existing products, taking the design from the initial concept to the final assembly.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering.

Design of products for manufacture.

Solidworks 3D CAD software.

FEA analysis and hand calculations.

Modeling machined parts and assemblies of parts.

Working with limits and fits and have knowledge of geometric tolerances.

Working with ROV’s or Subsea Machines.

Subsea Hydraulics.

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

Team Player.

Customer focus.

Good IT skills with excellent working knowledge of 3D CAD software (Solidworks).

Good analytical skills of static and dynamic systems.

Understanding of deadline achievements.

Conscientious, thorough and meticulous in detail.
