Context/Scope
Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across the spirits, wine and beer categories. These brands include Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness, Baileys, J&B and Tanqueray.
Corporate Security sits within the Group Legal function and the Director of Corporate Security reports directly to the General Counsel, Tim Proctor, a member of the Diageo Executive Board.
Corporate Security's mission is to protect Diageo's people, assets, reputation and future development through setting policies and standards and monitoring their implementation, by providing decision makers with forward looking security reports and by providing expert guidance and services, including investigations, to the businesses.
Compliance is critical to Diageo’s future success and maintaining the ability to conduct timely and effective investigations is a key part of the Compliance programme.
The role holder will be responsible for the management of the investigations framework including maintaining the policies and designing training for investigators in markets.
In addition the role holder will be expected to contribute to more general corporate security issues such as security audits, event planning and crisis management.
Market Complexity
Diageo operates in over 180 countries and works though a range of company structures including, wholly owned subsidiaries, majority shareholdings, joint ventures and distributor third parties.
The extensive geographic scope includes a diverse range of businesses and assets including distilleries, distribution centres, and administrative centres
Diageo is organised around 21 “big markets,” each with its own General Manager with ultimate accountability for security; stakeholder management is key.
Leadership Responsibilities
To own the investigative framework for Diageo by maintaining the policies and standards relating to the investigations, including overseeing investigations in markets and developing in-market capability .
Purpose of Role
To own the investigations framework
To undertake investigations as necessary
To undertake broader security tasks as a senior member of the Corporate Security team
To design and implement training programmes for staff in markets involved with investigations
To provide case analysis and investigative trends and direct investigative strategy appropriately
To build and maintain an effective network of suitable trained contacts across the business to ensure investigations are effective and timely
Top 3-5 accountabilities
Undertaking investigations and project work as required
Proactively supporting the broader Corporate Security agenda
Building and maintaining effective contacts in relevant law enforcement. Regulatory and industry bodies
Driving proactive programmes to mitigate current and emerging risks and trends.
Qualifications and experience required
Prior experience in law enforcement, military government security/intelligence or corporate security is required
Extensive experience of investigations including conducting and managing complex investigations, i.e. fraud allegations and civil investigations; conducting witness, victim, and suspect interviews (required)
Strong integrity
Good understanding of general security including experience in threat and developing risk analysis, conducting site surveys, crisi management, and executive protection. (preferred)
Strong integrity
International experience – prior living or working in more than one country would be useful
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to stay focused by constantly reassessing priorities and managing expectations within the business.
Ability to work confidently, persuasively and to gain the respect and trust of other senior managers.
