The Role
Opportunities like these are rare. This is the ideal career move for individuals with relevant industry experience who want to make the most of their talent and take it to new heights. Working as part of a regional team you'll be responsible for the production and development of quality research and analysis.
The vast natural resources of the Former Soviet Union mean companies cannot afford to ignore the region. Years of under-investment in both the upstream and midstream are now creating numerous opportunities for foreign investors of all sizes. Although many companies have been deterred by the political and fiscal instability that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union, the situation is now improving. However, state control of infrastructure and distribution networks is still tight, and upstream activities are monitored carefully to ensure maximum value is delivered. Nevertheless, investors who understand the local culture and operate to international standards are proving highly successful.
Your responsibilities will include
Researching and collating information, either by telephone or face-to-face meetings with key contacts in your region. This could be on particular assets, markets or companies with an emphasis on the commercial and financial aspects of the energy sector.
Reviewing, prioritising and analysing the data and information which you gather and using it to produce quantitative and qualitative in-depth reviews and updates of the highest quality.
Drawing upon your expertise to make a real contribution to the development and production of the energy subscription products for the region – and the team from day one. Your work will focus on different countries and issues each quarter, giving you real scope to demonstrate your expertise.
Making a real and valid contribution to the team with your ideas, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence.
To succeed in this role you'll need
A good degree in a relevant discipline
A good understanding of the upstream sector, preferably gained from 2+ years’ industry experience
Superb problem solving and analytical skills
Russian language skills an advantage but not essential
The ability to understand which information matters and to develop a sound interpretation of regional events and issues from an incomplete data base
An understanding of the needs and expectations of our clients and the ability and willingness to meet these expectations
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with the confidence and presentation skills necessary to present your findings to senior clients and staff
The ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to make a real contribution
Willingness to travel broadly within the region and to adapt to the cultural diversity which is characteristic of the regions
Good organisation and planning skills and the ability to manage your own workload when working independently
A serious commitment to excellence and meeting the standards which we pride ourselves on Wood Mackenzie - 9 months ago
