Purpose of job

To coordinate all internal and supplier activities required to achieve project targets and deliverables for Projects up to and including the Small Projects running within the engineering division. This includes timing, budgetary, technical and customer related tasks and responsibilities.

To provide the customer with a professional and technically good interface to the organisation:-

Duties

Definition and achievement of project targets (schedule, cost, quality, etc.)

Issue project request (what functional specifications.. when, cost/ benefit)

Structure project and define sub-projects

Create project plan (process plan, milestones, project organisation, risk evaluation):

Budget (cost) controlling

Plan resources (man, machine)

Maintain project data: functional specifications, customer information, monitor task packets etc.

Internal project marketing

Manager conflict (team, customer (internal/ external), committee)

Maintain rules for project team (competencies and responsibilities within project)

Maintain customer contact (information coordination (internal/ external), set rules for the team)

Release (despatch) change request (change management)

Transfer responsibility to person responsible for production

Initiate and carry out project- Kick Off

Evaluate project members and report to person in charge of line

Create/ update project status report

Report capacity bottlenecks (incl. Internal), escalate if necessary

Prioritize tasks

Qualifications

A relevant Engineering Degree i.e. Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Automotive

Experience

At least 5 years' experience in the field of engine technology Aeronautical Marine, Off road, Two wheel of which a minimum of 3 years in the Automotive Industry.

Managing and leading teams of greater than 5 engineers

A high technical level in one of the major Automotive Engineering disciplines: Design, Development, Calibration and a good understanding of the remaining disciplines

A detailed understanding of typical Automotive program Work Breakdown Structures, Task dependencies, Timing and Budgets.

Knowledge of Quality Engineering processes and procedures: APQP, Product Specification, System Specification, FMEA, Design Verification Planning, Concerns System

Experience of vehicle engineering and vehicle product launch requirements would be useful.

Previous experience of leading a single function project is preferred.

Skills

An experienced user of MS software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project

The ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers is essential

Strong negotiation skills are essential

Excellent communication skills is essential

Presentation skills in both a business development capacity and as a means of providing project status to the customer.

The ability to influence the customer, senior management and team members is essential

Good facilitator of meetings is desirable

The ability to identify and control risks to an engineering program is desirable

Good time management & delegation skills are desirable
