Based in HM Naval base Portsmouth in support of Royal Navy, RFA and commercial vessels employed as an industrial mechanical fitter.
Personnel must have served a recognised apprenticeship, have a deep understanding of mechanical work and be able to carry out the various techniques used in ship repair and support industry.
Suitable candidates will have a good understanding of safe systems of work including mechanical work, tag-out, confined spaces, working at height and RN specific safety operations.
A sound knowledge of mechanical systems and associated equipment is essential
As a Mechanical Fitter your main responsibilities will involve:
Ensure safe systems of work are carried out
Read/Interpret Mechanical Drawings.
Install and maintain various types of Mechanical Equipment such as: Main and Aux engines ( gas and diesel), Rudders, Shaftlines and associated equipment, Stabilisers, Pumps and valves.
Fault diagnosis and defect rectification.
Carry out detailed inspections and be fully conversant in the use of all measuring equipment
As a Mechanical Fitter your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Mechanical (marine) engineering knowledge
Technical Problem solving
Work with minimal supervision
A basic understanding of Mechanical drawings and Guidance information.
