Context
Diageo Wines Europe (DWE) is the second largest wine business in the UK. It trades through two distinct main business units, Percy Fox & Co and Justerini & Brooks. Percy Fox is a marketing-focussed high volume, low margin although best in class within UK, low working capital operation.

Top accountabilities
Develop & Activate Percy Fox Category Development strategy at pace with commercial awareness to Brand, Innovation & Retailer priorities. (includes WineSMARTE, Breaking country barriers for wine & role for branded wine within On trade) Continue to build WineSMARTE convenience category platform from early testing to national roll out with key strategic customers. Customer prioritisation Test completion and development of wider customer/trade engagement strategy & tools. Key Retail Customer engagement in conjunction with Activation Managers Development of conversion strategy/tools for symbol operators such as joint website, customer sales teams. Develop & Embed category strategy ensuring that all sales drivers are aligned to macro growth strategies & linked to key shopper and retailer trends – develop category pull rather than brand push approach. Raise Percy Fox category standing with customers and trade through direct engagement and trade communication strategy. Manage Nielsen data relationship & insight for commercial success. Budget management & M&E. Ensure Joined up planning of category strategy & activation to ensure alignment with wider business functions & growth drivers e.g. Brands, Innovation, and Customer/Commercial. Essential to foster strong working ties with Activation Managers, Innovation Managers & Brand teams.
Qualifications and experience required
Qualifications Degree level WSET – to intermediate level preferred although this is not a barrier for right candidate as wine courses can be arranged as part of induction. Experience Previous Category Development experience & understanding essential. UK commercial experience (sales/commercial planning) essential, preferably within TBA. Strong analytical interrogation skills and excellent on Nielsen Answers/Excel etc. Strong presentation & influencing skills to engage & excite external customers & internal stakeholders. Commercial acumen Demonstrable and in-depth TBA/wine trade knowledge Demonstration of strong organisational skills Proven track record of success Acute problem solving and process thinking Ability to manage multiple projects.
