Location: Ascension Island, South Atlantic
Salary: Up to £36,000 (TAX FREE) The salary band is £22,000 P/A to £25,000 P/A (plus 20% site uplift paid monthly and 20% objective specific bonus paid at every 13 months)
Benefits: Our client on the Ascension Island will provide free 3 x cooked meals per day , flights , transportation, own accommodation & 1 months rotational leave every six months.
Job purpose
The Chemist/Water Quality Manager’s is to ensure the delivery of contracted water services to meet legislative requirements and the standards and KPI’s within the Contract this also entails performing and developing routine biological, chemical and physical analysis of all water and wastewater products in relation to regulatory quality standards.
Responsibilities
Manage the delivery of quality water services.
To evaluate and optimise the water, wastewater and swimming pool process parameters to achieve the desired quality.
To contribute significantly to improving water efficiency on the base; recommending improvements for current water assets and providing relevant scientific and regulatory advice where needed.
Closely liaise with the Operational Teams and assist with any water related projects.
Management of the laboratory to facilitate testing requirements.
Operating, maintain and calibrating laboratory equipment like pH meters, photometers, conductivity meters, analytical balances etc.
The preparation, sampling, testing and analysis of various water and wastewater samples.
Reviewing or analysing test results in order to locate and rectify inconsistencies, malfunctions or areas of possible improvement.
Monitor and actively seek to reduce consumption / leakage on the site.
Directing, coordinating, and advising personnel in sampling and testing techniques.
The writing of a monthly technical report and weekly overview reports for the Business Manager, General Manager and the Client
To investigate and identify and drive forward areas of possible improvement.
Inspecting and maintaining operational logs
Reviewing, updating and implementing all relevant UK Regulations
Attending meetings related to scientific, technical and regulatory issues.
To carry out all reasonable instructions from the company’s Management.
Knowledge skills & experience
Must be capable of obtaining MoD SC security clearance.
Must be able to obtain a work permit for the Ascension Island through the completion of a UK basic Police Check.
Must be able to be declared medically and dentally fit to work in the Ascension Island through the Company Doctor / Medical.
A minimum of a Degree in Water Treatment or an Environmental Science/Engineering discipline with related laboratory experience
Must have previous experience of water quality management in a similar environment, preferably on a MoD Establishment abroad.
Must have experience and be able to demonstrate the ability to identify complicated problems and research for related information to build and evaluate options and execute solutions.
Must have detailed knowledge and experience and be well versed in applying scientific methods and rules to solve problems.
Highly skilled in quality or performance control analysis of services, products, or processes.
Must have a full driving license for a car.
Experience of working in a facilities management or construction environment is desirable.
Formal environmental/Health & Safety qualifications such as IEMA/IOSH Managing Safety or equivalent desirable.
