Application Technical Lead - Hosting Services Programme - Erskine - Commutable from Glasgow and surrounding area - (Windows, Unix, Infrastructure Lead,design)
This is a senior/lead designer/engineer role primarily focused on technical leadership for the Application Hosting Programme team. The role requires a broad knowledge of hosting patterns and services to meet existing business requirements and future growth.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
The candidate must have an in depth knowledge of application hosting environments, large data centre implementations or cloud hosting experience. A strong practice of primarily a Microsoft Windows enterprise would be required but candidates with a mix of Sun Solaris knowledge would be preferred.
The candidate will be designing and building agile hosting solutions through design patterns and service components. The candidate will need to interface at all levels and with all groups within my clients Trusted Platforms Service Line, Support the Service Line, Service Strategy, Design, Transition and Operations as well as 3rd parties and the MoD.
The role is end-to-end, being split between design work and hands-on delivery. The design work will include applications infrastructure design, sizing and capacity planning and application deployment strategies. This will require that the candidate can demonstrate a satisfactory level of skills in describing the conceptual and logical stages of a solution. The engineering element will include application and server configurations, software installations and optimisation. The team also provides 4th line support to the production solution, but do not manage, support or deploy to production infrastructure.
Essential Skills:
Enterprise scale Infrastructure Topologies and Architectures;
Windows and UNIX infrastructure architectures for applications hosting;
Designing for robustness, resilience, performance, security and scalability;
High Availability Designs;
Host Platform include Windows and Solaris;
Infrastructure Topology and Application Infrastructure strategies for replication, load balancing, clustering, failover, failure recovery and DR;
Solid understanding of application migration techniques and patterns.
Desirable Skills:
Windows 2003//2008 Server and Solaris platforms integration strategies;
Automated electronic software distribution concepts and strategies;
System and Service management strategies;
Unix infrastructure architectures (Sun Solaris);
Network & Storage strategies;
Security strategies for Access, Authentication, Audit, Authorisation and Non-Repudiation;
Design reviews and adherence to Governance processes
