The Mainframe Storage Manager role is situated within the HSBC’s Technology Services (HTS) IT Operations Department. You may manage a team of IT Operations resources responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of a stable and reliable environment for the Data Centre and Computer Equipment Room-based processing platforms and distributed network systems in line with agreed service agreements. To apply for this role you must have high level of technical expertise encompassing various hardware, software and infrastructure products. You will also have strong project management and communication skills and be able to discuss technical and business matters with multiple stakeholders.
IT Operations encompasses all aspects of mechanical, electrical and network infrastructure, processor hardware, operating system software, infrastructure software and middleware through maintenance of an effective relationship for the Group with various IT vendors, suppliers and partners. It is also responsible for the transition of services into the production environment and the ongoing control of those services through effective scheduling, processes and procedures through the use of a group standard framework and group standard tools.
Key responsibilities will include:
Researching and evaluating products in support of the technical strategy. This incorporates software and hardware evaluation together with producing reports that can be used in support of business cases for senior management approval.
Undertaking the technical co-ordination of projects instigated by or with other IT teams.
Leading other IT operations areas to ensure that appropriate business and operational needs are satisfied and service level targets achieved
Testing of system hardware, software and application transactions to ensure efficient use of resource prior to implementation, using the most cost efficient option
Designing, developing and implement new hardware and software technology solutions
Staying abreast of technology trends and advising IT and the business about potential benefits and impacts.
Project manage the delivery of services by other internal/external teams
Lead and direct problem investigation and recovery in complex situations
Ensure compliance with all relevant instructions and regulations
In addition to the requirements mentioned above, you will need to:
Have good technical design and implementation skills with a proven track record of delivering large and complex projects
Proficient in English plus another Northern European language
Build and maintain effective working relationships with peer groups and product suppliers
Have excellent planning and organisation skills, and be able to work with conflicting priorities
Have effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to own and drive problems to resolution
Demonstrate strong analytical skills and high attention to detail
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Work with minimal supervision
Adhere to regulations, internal controls, legal obligations and data protection rules
Have in depth understanding of service management techniques, including change management, incident management, Data Centre operations and configuration management
Have project management experience and skills
A high level of technical expertise along with the ability to react rapidly and effectively to change. This knowledge will be both specific to the technology supported and the infrastructure to which it interfaces.
Recent, extensive experience of designing, implementing and maintaining zSeries Storage environments
Experience of IBM Sysplex environments.
