Environment Analyst/Technical Consultant required for large and reputable organisation based in Leeds. This position is varied, challenging and offers the chance be involved in a number of technical areas.
This position is part of team that helps deliver new or changed IT services with minimal impact to existing services. This position will be responsible for the provisioning of correctly configured IT environments consisting of hardware, physical and virtual servers, platforms, connectivity and OS configurations, supporting the successful deployment of applications and services.
This position will involve the following responsibilities:
To deliver new or changed IT services with minimal impact to existing services and associated revenue streams, embracing the principles of the DevOps movement.
The role will suit someone with strong Linux (RH) admin skills and a development background. The role will involve working collaboratively with Developers, QA, DBAs, Server Ops and other disciplines, to improve the services and support they offer to Service Delivery by looking to automate.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Deployment and configuration of new software application releases using existing processes and updating to automated processes.
- Automate Server builds and implementation of new virtual and physical infrastructure and ensuring they meet the Standard build requirements.
- Implementation of project tasks required to be undertaken by the Product Delivery Team using repeatable methods.
- Coordinating with other departments and developers within the organisation to deliver a continuous deployment/integration service.
The ideal candidate would have experience or some exposure to the following:
- Experience in Unix/Linux, Apache and Java application platforms.
- Ability to think strategically when faced with operational issues.
- Strong communication skills.
- An excellent working knowledge of IT system environments i.e. operating systems, networking, applications, platforms and databases.
- Experience in project and service delivery processes, development and testing methodologies.
- Shell scripting, PHP, RDBMS (Oracle or Informix preferred)
- Experience of Data centre automation tools e.g Puppet, Chef, Bladelogic
Any experience in the following would be beneficial to the position but not essential:
- Monitoring software Wily, Nimsoft, Openview
- Knowledge base and Task tracking tools – JIRA, Confluence, Sharepoint.
- Virtualisation
- ITIL accreditation.
