The aim of the Fire fighter is to save life and form an integral part of a disciplined team that attends a wide variety of emergency incidents, sometimes in arduous or hazardous environments, in order to mitigate loss of life and damage to property.

To attend incidents with or without fire and render assistance to those that require it.

The Fire fighter is expected, whilst on duty, to adopt and undertake the following responsibilities and duties.

The Fire Fighter is responsible to the Watch Manager for carrying out the implementation and completion of daily routines to a satisfactory level. Following the allocation of tasks from the Watch or Crew Manager,

Responsible to the Watch Manager the Fire Fighter will ensure compliance with appropriate legislation, bylaws, Airport Standing Orders, statutory regulations and operational requirements.

Ensuring that they abide by the safe person concept whilst maintaining the Health Safety and Welfare of other team members throughout the range of their duties.

The Fire Fighter is assigned to each watch, subordinate to the duty Crew Manager.

The Fire Fighter may be rostered at the discretion of the Senior Airport Fire Officer to provide such coverage as he/she sees fit, notwithstanding any conditions outlined in a current contract of employment.

Essential skills

The Fire Fighter must possess and display at all times the following personal skills, qualifications, abilities and experiences. They must also follow and adhere to the Fire Service National Fire Fighter Personal Qualities and Attributes (PQAs) framework.

Personality:
Computer skills: Must be adept in use of basic computer skills including data entry and recording. An understanding of word processing and spreadsheets is an advantage.

Literacy and Numeracy: Able to understand and carryout basic fire ground calculations including area, volume and capacities. Able to communicate and motivate via written media. Must also be able to produce written reports in the correct layout and format as required.

Knowledge and Experience

***The potential candidate MUST hold a CAA approved Airport Fire Fighter certificate and be able to provide evidence of competency in the role. ***
