Brief Description
The key purpose of the Signalling Power & Communications - Asset Management Delivery function is the efficient delivery of renewals or life extension projects through improved specification, better utilisation of resources and the professional control and management of projects. Its focus is to renew or life extend the rail infrastructure to deliver our commitments for the future through increased efficiency and value for money. As a Senior Project Engineer, you lead a multidisciplinary team that will ensure that appropriate engineering standards are used in relation to construction on allocated projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the engineering team, based in York, delivering LNE and East Midlands route LX renewals, upgrades and enhancements as part of a Network Rail key priority to improve Level Crossing safety. The team are also involved in trialling and rolling out new technology and initiatives. About the role (External)
Your expertise as a Senior Project Engineer (Signalling) will enable you to implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to a programme of relevant projects. Your experience will enable you to liaise with regulators and others as appropriate. A key part of this role will be to monitor a specific programme managed by Asset Management so that they are engineered to the standards and specification of Network Rail. You must have an ability to manage all engineering activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. You will lead a team of project engineers to deliver the engineering outputs for particular programme area.

Typical projects undertaken by this team are level crossing renewals, upgrades and enhancements in the LNE and East Midland routes, based in York. The crossing types involved are MCB-OD, CCTV, AHBs, ABCLs along with the opportunity to be involved with and lead new crossing technology and process / safety initiatives. Level Crossing safety is key to Network Rail's core values with these renewals, upgrades and enhancements forming a key part of strategies to deliver improvements.

LX Renewals at Medge Hall, Godnow Bridge, Rounton Gates, Cow Lane, Cridling Stubbs, Brinsworth Street, Follybank, Thorpe Hall
A fundamental requirement of this post will be the ability to work in tandem with the other engineering disciplines within SP&C. This team may also provide Signalling support for E&P and Telecommunications projects in the Asset Management SP&C portfolio.

The successful candidate will monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors, providing project management advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision. You will have the ability to manage elements of relevant projects to meet the requirements of current legislation, including construction design management regulations. An ability to arrange an audit of contractors will be required to monitor safety, environment and quality of design, construction and testing. The successful candidate will lead a team of multidisciplinary engineers to deliver a national portfolio.

Do you have…?
Successful relevant experience of Signalling Engineering Projects? A good understanding of Signalling Design & Construction processes? Knowledge or experience of Product Trials and Product Approval processes? Design and/or Construction experience with Level Crossings (eg. MCB-OD, CCTV, AHB, MSL, ABCL, AOCL)? Design and/or Testing experience with software controlled systems? Knowledge of ROGS Regulations? Experience of leading a multidisciplinary team? Successful relevant experience in engineering? Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level? Experience in quality assurance? An awareness of Construction Design Management? The ability to make informed decisions?
