As the expectations of the researcher communities develop and technology enables the communication of research in different ways, it is increasingly important that we are listening to and responding to the evolving requirements of our core academic groups. The ideal candidate will provide a lead in engaging with senior academics and professionals to identify new service delivery opportunities and will seek to influence the agenda within the business school community specifically.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Monitor and assess processes for attracting research funding within the business school and information management areas. Consider how changes in technology and researcher behaviour are impacting how research is shared and how evolving methods of communication could be applied to Emerald’s services and business models.
Make proposals for enhancements and changes to service delivery and business models to meet changing user needs and exploit appropriate opportunities.
Research changes and developments in the communication of academic research to prepare coherent and meaningful presentations to influence the long-term vision of the company.
Utilise research to present to academic and librarian groups to share Emerald’s vision and position, strengthen our relationships with these groups at senior levels and influence the broader research communication agendas.
Facilitate two or three workshops or focus groups with influential stakeholders to gain market insight and share knowledge.
Speak at industry events, raising Emerald’s profile and influencing sector activities to align with Emerald’s interests.
Mobilise a group of academic advisers to act as advocates and to influence at the highest levels to assist in brand positioning and to broaden Emerald’s networks.
Attributes
The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of publishing and research dissemination, ideally having worked as a publisher with an understanding of researcher motivations and behaviours. You will have strong communication skills together with excellent presentation skills and the ability to research and analyse quantitative and qualitative data. It is essential that you are able to achieve results through others, working cross-functionally and have the ability to influence at a senior level. A Master or PHD is desirable for the above position.
