Job Purpose EFL Lecturer
To plan, prepare and deliver English as a Foreign Language (EFL) courses at the University of Ulster branch campus London.
To mark and provide appropriate feedback on oral and written work.
To provide regular progression reports for students studying on our EFL programmes.
Attending and contributing to training sessions set up by the Director of Teaching and Learning Enhancement.
To provide academic support to students on our EFL programmes in conjunction with our Teaching Assistants, the Registry Department and Compliance Department.
To deliver and assist in the planning and preparation of student induction in conjunction with the EFL Programme Leader (to also liaise with the compliance team in the organisation of this).
To adhere to and maintain academic standards and quality assurance within the English team.
To provide pastoral care and support to international students on our EFL programmes (in conjunction with the Compliance team).
To contribute to the wider business through sharing of best practice with the wider academic community and supporting or driving business development opportunities.
Main Responsibilities
Work with the EFL program leader and fellow lecturers to establish the business/academic strategy for the EFL Department, and how to turn the strategy into the desired results.
Work with the EFL Programme Leader, Director of Teaching and Learning Enhancement, Quality and Assurance Manager, Lecturing Teams and Administrative Staff to set up and measure student/class goals and objectives.
Communication of company policy and best practice to the team.
Work with the EFL Programme Leader to measure English testing goals and objectives.
Support the EFL Programme Leader and Academic Department as required in relation to business wide projects.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) or equivalent (i.e. MSc/ MA TEFL/ TESOL)
Candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to provide evidence of 5 years of systematic observation of lessons by a fully-qualified academic manager or teacher trainer.
Degree or equivalent - Required
A minimum of 2 years classroom teaching experience
Mentoring/Training experience
Experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in a university environment - Desired
Excellent knowledge of English Language requirements for International students, policies and methodologies within a higher educational context.
The ability to operate well within a team environment.
Strong understanding of the market place, and experience in planning, organising and assessing English language.
Structured and clear communication to colleagues within the team.
Proven ability to work on own initiative
Demonstrate evidence of organisational and administrative ability
Mentoring, training and coaching ability
Confident and strong sense of direction
Self motivated
Well organised and methodical
You will enjoy working within a fast paced environment, have a determined and confident character, be target driven with an organised and proactive approach.
